The Bangladesh Maritime Law Society organized a seminar, ‘Protection of Bangladeshi Ship Owners in the Global Maritime Environment,” on March 6, 2023, at the CIRDAP International Conference Center (CICC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The purpose of the conference was to address the issues Bangladeshi shipowners confront in the global maritime environment and develop ways to safeguard their interests.

Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP, the Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping, and Government of the Republic of Bangladesh, was the Hon’ble Chief Guest. The special guests of the seminar were Mr. Syed Shahriyar Ahsan, C.E.O., Pioneer Insurance Company Limited, and Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, BN (Retd), former Director General, Department of Shipping, and representative of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), Bangladesh.
Our friend from Steamship Mutual, Mr. Edward Barnes, was one of the speakers who gave a presentation on the ‘Role of P&I Clubs in Protecting Ship Owners in the Global Maritime Industry.”

Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, Advocate Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Acting President of the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS), gave the welcome speech, while Advocate Ms. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers of MCLaw Services Ltd., who were technical partners of the BMLS, expressed her gratitude to the participants at the end of the seminar.
