MCLaw Services Ltd. extends its warmest congratulations to Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) for organizing a successful Seminar and the theme of the seminar was ‘Understanding the Complexities of Marine Insurance Claims and the Cover Provided by Insurers’.
The Seminar was held on July 10 2023 at Hotel Agrabad, Chattogram sponsored by Tysers, West of England, MCO- Marine Claim Office and supported technically by MCLaw Services Ltd. with National & International speakers, leading Ship-owners, Ship builders, Shipping lines, Ship agents, prominent Marine insurers, Academicians, and Maritime Lawyers. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from participants eager to delve into the world of maritime law.
BMLS recognized the need of bringing experts in marine insurance and ship owners and other stakeholders of maritime industry at the same platform to share their experience and exchange their ideas critical on Marine insurance issues and therefore, organized this highly informative and engaging International seminar.
The seminar was inaugurated by Commodore Md. Ziaul Haque, OSP, NDC, AFWC, PSC, BN, Managing Director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, who emphasized the importance of the seminar in creating awareness about the scope of the cover provided by Marine Insurance Policies. The special guest of the seminar, Mr. Sarwar Jahan, DMD of SR Shipping Ltd. and Mr. Md. Mehrul Karim, Chief Executive Officer of SR Shipping Ltd. addressed the various issues related to Marine Insurance briefly.
The seminar aimed to explore the challenges and discuss various issues regarding enhancing the knowledge of the stakeholders of the maritime industry related to the Law of Marine Insurance with special focus on marine insurance claims and scope of the coverage under various marine insurance policies.
Five renowned national and international experts presented their papers on marine insurance and other relevant topics and this operational part of the program was moderated by industry expert Mr. Chris Sydenham, Managing Director (Claims), Tysers.
Panel discussion sessions are given below:
1. Title: ‘Major casualty management and role of P&I club ’.
Session Speakers: – Ms. Suzanne Byrne, Group Head of Claims, West of England and Mr. Enam Hussain, Head of Claims (Eastern Term) West of England.
2. Title: ‘Unlocking some mysteries of Marine Hull Insurance Claims’.
Session Speakers: -Mr. Chris Kilbee, Chairman, Marine Claims Office-MCO and Mr. James Kilbee, Associate, UK AAA, Senior Adjusting Manager, Marine Claims Office-MCO
3. Title: ‘Law as applicable to maritime and marine insurance claims in Bangladesh’.
Session Speakers: Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir (Capt MAK).
The seminar was attended by about to 150 participants, including Bangladeshi ship owners, representatives from shipping companies, government officials, international experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from various fields. The participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and network with industry peers.
Ms. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers of MCLaw Services Ltd. the technical partner of BMLS on behalf of organizing committee, expressed her gratitude to the esteemed Guests, Speakers, Delegates, Participants and all Sponsors for their contribution to the success of the seminar. As specialized in marine insurance, she brought up various issues altogether in a nutshell in her speech regarding marine insurance at a whole.
Overall, the seminar was a resounding success, and the participants left with a better understanding of the marine insurance claims and scope of the coverage.
