MCLaw Services Ltd., as the technical partner of the recent seminar on ‘The Role of Legislature and Judiciary in Protecting the Blue Economy,’ in collaboration with the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) and the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network, Bangladesh (MACN), is thrilled to share this insightful event.
We were honored to have Mr. Azam J. Chowdhury, Chairman, Bangladesh Ocean Going Ship Owners’ Association (BOGSOA), as our ‘Special Guest’.
Ms. Shweata Mishra, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Head of Chambers at MCLaw Services Ltd., and Coordinator at BMLS, brilliantly initiated and concluded the seminar with her profound insights.
Our distinguished lineup of keynote speakers, including our President Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Dr. Mir Tareque Ali, Mr. Mohammad Mahburur Rahman, Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, and Mr. Sheridan Steiger, illuminated various facts of the Blue Economy, international collaboration, sustainable resource management, and the importance of legal frameworks.
Two engaging panel discussions were moderated by Rear Admiral Mohammad Khaled Iqbal and Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, focusing on the impact of national and international law in developing the Blue Economy and the role of the judiciary in supporting and developing the maritime industry respectively.
The esteemed panelists, Mr. Justice (Retd.) AFM Abdur Rahman, Mr. Md. Abdus Samad, Rear Admiral A S M Abdul Baten, Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq, Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, Capt. AKM Shafiqullah, Mr. Md Golam Sarwar, Mr. Syed Md. Bakhtiar, and Mr. Palash Bandyopadhyay, shared their profound insights, contributing to meaningful discussions.
The first panel emphasized the harmonization of national legal systems with sustainable blue economy principles. Ensuring consistency, enacting new legislation, and amending existing laws concerning the maritime sector were highlighted as crucial steps. Adaptive legal frameworks that account for industry evolution were emphasized.
