BMLS- Bangladesh Maritime Law Society in celebration of World Maritime Day 2024 of International Maritime Organization (IMO) hosted a seminar on the theme ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First!’ on September 26, 2024, at the CIRDAP International Conference Center, Dhaka.

The seminar, graced by Honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Justice AFM Abdur Rahman (Retd.) and Esteemed Special Guest, Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan of the University of Dhaka alongside renowned speakers from Bangladesh’s maritime community including the President of Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) Advocate Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir (Capt. MAK) FNI FCILT FCIArb, Advocate Ms. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers of MCLaw Services Ltd., Commodore Syed Ariful Islam Project Lead of Maritime Anti-Corruption Network Bangladesh, Mr. Mohammad Obaidullah Ibne Bashir (Obaid Bashir), from Department of Shipping and Prof. Dr. Mir Tareque Ali from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by the President of Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) Advocate Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir (Capt. MAK) FNI FCILT FCIArb, representative of Bangladesh at CMI – Comité Maritime International and emphasised on marine safety in his keynote presentation, ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First.’

The Coordinator, Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) Advocate Ms. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers of MCLaw Services Ltd. delivered the closing remarks and vote of thanks in the Seminar.

The seminar was largely attended by learned Advocates, Academicians, Shipbuilders, Insurers, Maritime Industry Leaders, and above all, Students from the faculty of law from Ten leading universities in Dhaka. The students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with industry experts and gain valuable insights into the legal aspects of the Maritime Industry.
