Bangladesh Maritime Law Society and Eastern University Faculty of Law Successfully Organized a Workshop on ‘Introduction to Maritime Law and Practice’
The Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) and Eastern University Faculty of Law, in collaboration with technical partner MCLaw Services Ltd., have accomplished a highly successful day-long workshop on “Introduction to Maritime Law and Practice.” The event took place on October 27, 2022, at 09:00 AM at Eastern University’s Dhanmondi Campus, garnering an enthusiastic response from participants eager to delve into the intricate world of maritime law.
The workshop program commenced with an inspiring speech from the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain, setting the stage for an enriching day of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Distinguished speakers from various domains of maritime law and practice delivered informative presentations, enlightening the attendees on key topics. The esteemed speakers included:
Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and President (Acting) of Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) as well as President of MCLaw Services Ltd. discussed “Introduction to Admiralty Law & Maritime Claims.”
Engineer Obaid Bashir, Ship Surveyor and Examiner at the Department of Shipping, Government of the Republic of Bangladesh, provided insights on “IMO & International Maritime Conventions Applicable in Bangladesh.”
Dr. Md. Anowar Zahid, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Law, Department of Law, Eastern University, enlightened the audience on the “Law of Carriage of Goods by Sea.”
Ms. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers, MCLaw Services Ltd., Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, presented on “Introduction to Marine Insurance, Problem Solving & Group Activities.”
The workshop was graced by the presence of a special guest, Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam, Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, adding prestige to the event.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in interactive sessions, problem-solving activities, and group discussions, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
