Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS), a member of the CMI – Comité Maritime International, successfully hosted the International Seminar on the Day of the Seafarer 2026 on 25 June 2026 at Hotel Agrabad, Chattogram, under the theme “Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks.”

The seminar honoured seafarers—the unsung heroes of global trade—while highlighting the legal, operational, and humanitarian challenges they face.

The programme was generously supported by the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers’ Association (BMMOA), Haque & Sons Ltd., Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), Interport Group, Doria Shipping Limited (DSL), Petromax Refinery Ltd. (PRL), and Vanguard Maritime Limited, with MCLaw Services Ltd. serving as the Technical Partner.

The seminar was honored by the presence of Capt. Sheikh Md. Jalal Uddin Gazi, Principal Officer (Additional Charge) and Registrar of Bangladesh Ships, Mercantile Marine Office, Chattogram, and Capt. Ataur Rahman, Principal, National Maritime Institute, Chattogram, as Special Guests.

The dais was also graced by Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir (Capt. MAK) FNI FCILT FCIArb, President of BMLS, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Representative of Bangladesh to the Comité Maritime International (CMI); Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hye (Mohammed Hye), former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand; Capt. Md. Anam Chowdhury, President, Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers’ Association (BMMOA); Commodore Syed Ariful Islam Islam, BN (Retd.), former Director General of the Department of Shipping and Project Lead of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) Bangladesh; and Adv. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers, MC Law Services Ltd. and General Coordinator of BMLS.

In his welcome address, Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir emphasized that while seafarers are the backbone of the Blue Economy and global commerce, their sacrifices often go unrecognized. He concluded by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to every seafarer for their unwavering service.
