About the Event
On 25 September 2025, the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS), a proud member of the CMI – Comité Maritime International, successfully hosted the seminar “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre, Dhaka, in celebration of World Maritime Day 2025.
This impactful event was organized with the technical support of MCLaw Services Ltd. and supported by the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN).
Justice AFM Abdur Rahman (Retd.), Supreme Court of Bangladesh, chaired the seminar and emphasized the strategic importance of Bangladesh’s Blue Economy.
Mr. Mohiuddin Abdul Kadir (Capt. MAK) FNI FCILT FCIArb, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh & President of BMLS, welcomed guests with a powerful opening address.
Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain (K A Hossain, PhD), Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh Maritime University, as Chief Guest, spoke on the intersection of AI and ocean protection.
Commodore Syed Misbah Uddin Ahmad (Retd.), Director General, Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD), underscored the opportunities in the Bay of Bengal and the need for port digitalization.
Mr. S.M. Moinul Islam, Country Manager, TYSER GROUP SERVICES LIMITED, emphasized technology’s role in harnessing the blue economy.
Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hye (Mohammed Hye), former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand spoke on Seafarers’ Rights.
Commodore Syed Ariful Islam (Retd.), former DG of Shipping & Project Lead at MACN spoke on Sustainable Shipping.
The Closing Remarks and Vote of Thanks were delivered by Adv. Shweata Mishra, Head of Chambers, MCLaw Services Ltd. & General Coordinator, BMLS, expressing appreciation to all speakers, partners, and participants for making the event a success.
The seminar brought together a diverse group of judges, lawyers, academics, shipowners, port authorities, marine insurers, freight forwarders, cargo interests, and key government agencies.
Active engagement from students and maritime professionals contributed to a vibrant and solution-oriented dialogue.
Together, we reaffirmed the crucial role of maritime law and our collective responsibility in safeguarding our oceans.
